Stephen JonesStephen Jones studied piano with John Bingham and singing with John Huw Davies at Trinity College of Music, London. He has been GCU's regular rehearsal accompanist and assistant to the Music Director since 1980. He often appears as a performer with GCU. Stephen is also a choral conductor in his own right, directing both the City Chamber Choir in London and the Hertfordshire-based Aeolian Singers.

Since gaining a qualification from London's Institute of Education, Stephen has fulfilled a busy schedule as a singer, accompanist, conductor, continuo player and occasional lecturer and presenter. He has made many appearances as an oratorio singer and on radio and television as a member of the close-harmony group Original Blend.

Stephen founded the City Chamber Choir in 1987, and the group released its first CD in 1997. It also reached the semifinals of the Sainsbury's Choir of the Year competition. In addition, it has been the recipient of several Enterprise Awards from the UK Performing Right Society.

Stephen is in increasing demand as a choir trainer. Since 1995 he has worked for the British Federation of Young Choirs as a choral animateur in South Cambridgeshire. In July 1997, he conducted a new opera with the Britten Sinfonia and a chorus of 250 primary school children.
